60 minutes did a recent expose on the Happiest Place on Earth - Denmark. Why are they so happy? Low expectations. Perhaps they're on to something. Little national turmoil and lots of contentment. People feel secure. They don't "want it all" like Americans.
Maybe I can incorporate their philosophy into my life. I wonder how it would change?
1) I wouldn't expect my boyfriend to ever fall in love with me. I would be happy that we're together and have a pleasant relationship. I would understand that his issues may never go away, and I'd be OK with that because there are a lot of people that don't have a significant other. I'm actually lucky. And I wouldn't expect to fall head over heels in love like all the romantic chick flicks portray in the theaters.
2) I wouldn't care whether or not I get another job, make more money, and become successful. I would be OK with the fact that my job isn't extremely important and if I wasn't around, life would go on normally. I would be happy that I can pay more than my minumum for each credit card, and it wouldn't matter to me that it looks as though it will indeed take me 30 years to pay off my school loan.
3) I would take pleasure in the monotony of everyday. I would be fine with the fact that I can go into work, sit in my office, and do pretty much anything I want most of the year. Going home at 5 or 6 to watch Fraiser reruns would never bore me - even the 7th viewing of Season 8 would send me into fits of giggles.
Hmmm - contentment as a way of life. Maybe they're on to something?
Didn't have enough energy to post yesterday...
